Mock-up studies for a stage tent for @danskindustri at this year’s Peoples Meeting on Bornholm.

Delivery must be ready next Friday and @quantumsailsdk are currently finishing the membrane in full scale, 65m2
Looking forward to going to Bornholm again after two years without @folkemoedet_official .

When thorough preparations bear fruit

After last weeks’ successful experience of assembling the scissors trusses, we’ve spent quite some time measuring, double and triple checking the exact positions of the screw foundations to be able to accurately place the holes for the pole feet, and absorb the tolerances from the foundation, so the trusses would end in perfect alignment when raised.

Yesterday came the moment of truth, in regards to whether our preparations were fruitful, when the greenhouse-crew from @drivadan_houseinglass and a competent crane operator arrived at the site. Not without a little bit of anxiety we watched as the first truss was lifted from the ground, craned into position and bolted to the screw foundations. About 2½ hours of competent craning later all seven trusses were placed, and before sunset wind braces and the first battens were installed and the structure secured. Over the coming weeks Drivadan will mount their components, and then there will be a greenhouse at Lerbjerggård!

A special thank you goes out to @fremtidensfundament who, in spite of some challenges in the underground, were able to place the screw foundations within the necessary tolerances, and thanks to Drivadan’s crew and crane operator for the effort yesterday, which happily led to a topping out ceremony after just a few hours after arrival. And thanks to @bymarkant for CNCing, thanks to KT Stål for quick production of the steel feet, thanks Henrik Almegaard for structural calculations and thanks to @andelsgaarde.dk building group for the help assembling the trusses last week. All in all a nice and gratifying experience that promises a lot for the applicability of the scissor truss in future builds.

This week we and volunteers from Andelsgaarde’s building group made seven scissor trusses, which are the first of their kind, a type of truss our studio has developed for use at new construction, conversion and renovation.

This time they will act as the load bearing structure in Andelsgaarde’s greenhouse at their motherfarm in Melby, Denmark; Lerbjerggård. The project has been on the way for quite some time, so we’re looking very much forward to seeing it built, just as we’ve been very pleased to see that the developed truss could be assembled using reasonably simple tools and within the expected timeframe.

We’re very satisfied to be able to assemble the CNC-milled parts into a load bearing structure for a 200 sqm building in just a few days - that bodes well for the future applicability of the trusses, as a modern pendant counterpart to timber framing as we know, produced with contemporary wood processing tools, and with functionality and aesthetics in mind.

Respect for time and place

During the upcoming construction we want to rebuild Lerbjerggård with respect to both the farm and the village's history and future needs.
Therefore, we have worked to create a new main house which falls naturally into the
surrounding village and reflects the former expression of the main house.
Andelsgaarde works for a green transition, so it is important for the cooperative to
pave the way for the construction of the future. We do this by being critical of the
large resource and CO2 footprint that construction makes up (more on this in a
future post).
Towards Melbyvej, the main house is expressed with a symmetrical facade similar to
the original facade. The facades are clad with wood and the roof with straw - just as
the property had in the ‘old days’ and several other houses in Melby still have today.
On the courtyard side, the house is given a more contemporary look with function-
defined windows on the facades, skylights and an access ramp. It opens up towards
the courtyard and the greenhouse to the north.

Renovation / demolition plan

As described in the post yesterday, we unfortunately had to tear down the
farmhouse, parts of the north barn and the barns to the east. In doing this, the view
from the courtyard towards the fields and the soft, hilly landscape with burial
mounds and meadows is opened up.
A new main house is being built where the old farmhouse stood. It consists of
housing for the young farmer couple to the east and a department for the
cooperative in the remaining part. Liljeborg has donated this new main house.
Where the old barn stood, a greenhouse called "Common house under building
envelope" is being built. It will compliment the cooperative’s premises in the future
main house and facilitate gardening events during periods when the weather is not
suitable for outdoor activities. The funds for the greenhouse come from
Underværker / Realdania and LAG Halsnæs-Gribskov.
The barn towards Melbyvej which is the healthiest part of all the buildings will be
preserved. A renovation plan for this part is underway, (although funding has not yet
been provided)

Lerbjerggård - before, now and soon

Lerbjerggård in Melby was built around 1865. Previously, there was a small mill in the courtyard which drew water up to the farm's livestock. For many years until now, only potatoes have been grown, with the farm is known to many as the "potato
farm".
When Andelsgaarde took over the farm in June 2019, it was - like so many other abandoned farms in Denmark - in very poor condition. We hoped to be able to preserve the main house but unfortunately it did not make sense to save. The walls on the barn’s north side which make up the farm's largest building were collapsing and could not be saved.
Since then, Atelier Kristoffer Tejlgaard in close collaboration with the cooperative's board and Liljeborg, has outlined possible solutions for the various parts of the farm. The farm must both be traced back to a more original expression that harmonizes with past material choices and the other houses of Melby, whilst at the same time become a place that can house Andelsgaarde's many members and the young farmer couple Nanna and Christopher.

Today we start a small SoMe series about the upcoming construction at Andelsgaarde’s farm Lerbjerggård in Melby.
Kristoffer, in his capacity as an architect, has made a huge voluntary effort on the project from the time Andelsgaarde took over Lerbjerggård in 2019 - just as employees, interns and members of the cooperative have also taken part in the work along the way.
Building permission has been granted, the demolition crew have been in action and soon the construction itself will start.
Follow along the coming few days as we go through the different parts of the construction and introduce you - AKT's followers - and members of Andelsgaarde to the considerations and principles behind the project.

We’re still here, even though we’ve been very quiet. It’s not that we don’t have anything to tell, rather the opposite, we’ve been so encridibly busy that we haven’t had the time to post anything. The bustle is luckily beginning to wear off, so we can resume our outward communication here to a greater extent. We are happy and proud today because – for the first time in the studio’s history – we’ve received a work grant from the Danish Arts Foundation: ”The purpose of the work grant is to give highly qualified and talented architects the possibility to further develop their artistic work”, it says among other things in the letter, and that recognition we are trying to take in and digest, while the work continues in experimenting, developing and creating aestetical solutions to the crises our world and our profession faces at the moment and in the future.

Just captured this snapshot of one of our early prototypes for a lamp in the sun.

We have been continously developing on a furniture series of lamps, chairs and tables over the last few years. And we are looking forward to share our work with you once we are ready to publish.
